Our real-time engine, rebuilt

The problem

Lucidly’s real-time engine powers live comments, presence, and notifications. It ran on a third-party service that limited what we could build and occasionally dropped updates.

What’s better now

We built our own real-time engine from the ground up. Live updates arrive faster and more reliably, the app keeps working even if the live connection drops, and the new engine opens the door to multiplayer features like live cursors.
